Reminder, Rally, Repentance

Yes, there is a podcast. So, when I don’t post much on this blog, it probably means there are new podcasts being released, so check them out (and comment if you have time; discussion is often very helpful for myself and everyone else!). I just finished a series on Genesis 1 and symbolic views of Adam and Eve. Theistic evolution and all attempts to force Darwinism into the pages of Scripture should be repulsive to every Christian (for now, refer to here).
It’s a good thing I recorded most of the mp3s last week, since I cannot escape the deafening rumble of Harley Davidsons on the interstate 200 yards away. Living 12 miles from the largest motorcycle rally in the world can create numerous…issues. SD is only 750,000 people, and the rally is supposed to bring to SD…another 750,000 people. I actually managed to visit Sturgis and the Buffalo Chip last night with a friend, and then got lost in a massive pasture between a few ranges of the Black Hills looking for a less traffic-congested way back to interstate; our GPS led us to the middle of nowhere squared. Absolutely gorgeous area of God’s creation, however (the pastures and hills, not the notorious Buffalo Chip!…Pee-wee Herman is apparently making an appearance, among other things).
Amidst such blatant ungodliness and the unbridled search for more creative sin, it is nice to see a “Christian bikers” group every now and then during the rally. Of course, most bikers (such as the ones actually wearing clothes) are just ordinary people. There’s obviously nothing wrong with driving a hog (or even a Honda!). In fact, the first Reformed Baptist Christian apologist from Phoenix I met was seen as such in 2005; I won’t forget that.
However, sometimes the biker subculture that’s often known for being professionally rebellious and sinful has a presence, and for that, we grieve. Most South Dakotans focus on the “economic prosperity” the rally brings to the area. But I tend to think such local, week-long events as these is always an encouragement to pray for repentance in the land. How we always need guidance and grace!
